Please introduce yourself and your company.
We’re Kimmy Scotti and LisaMarie Lawrence: sisters, best friends, and co-founders. (Yes, in that order.) Our company, Monthly Gift, offers a subscription based femme care delivery service and cycle tracking app designed to empower women everywhere and help solve some basic period problems. We deliver a customized assortment of high quality pads, tampons, and liners (and candy, of course), to your door every month, and with our app, you can track your cycle, set reminders for OB/GYN appointments, and so much more. We’re working hard everyday to create pioneering technology, insanely convenient services, and engaging, educating, and entertaining content for the Monthly Gift community. And we’ve got tons of exciting things in store for the near future.
How are you disrupting your industry?
It’s a common problem which, up until recently, had no sustainable solution: every month women either understocked or overstocked on femme care, and we always seemed to overspend. Too often we found ourselves making emergency trips to the drugstore to grab whatever period products they had. We knew there had to be a better way. We’re the first company to offer an affordable, fully customized assortment of period products delivered in time for your next cycle. This mix of pads, tampons, and liners ensures women have the exact products they both want and need. We’re helping women take control of their health so they can spend more time doing more of what they love. We’ve established ourselves as a platform for empowerment and education around issues of women’s reproductive health. And we’re just getting started.

What’s been your biggest challenge?
Starting a business in a space where so much is “taboo” to talk about definitely has its challenges. Like trying to educate male investors about femme care and having to say the word “vagina” in a meeting (a lot); that took some getting used to. But we truly believe that the more we can normalize an experience that half of the world goes through every month, the better off we’ll all be.
What’s your most and least favorite part of your job?
Our favorite part of the job is working with each other. We’ve always been attached at the hip, but starting this company has given us the opportunity to see each other in a new light. We always knew the other one was amazing at their jobs, but it’s really cool to get to experience that expertise first hand, and grow this business together.
Our least favorite part of the job is coming across so many amazing partnership and product opportunities, and having to say no because we can’t take on everything at once. Staying focused is super important for us at this stage, but it always hurts a little when there’s a fun opportunity that we have to say no to in order to stay on track!
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone starting a new business?
Don’t be afraid to fail. As a leader, you cannot operate from a place of fear. It’s essential that you embody the confidence and courage your team needs and deserves. Some of the best lessons you’ll learn will be from the mistakes that you make, so approach your mistakes knowing that they’ll strengthen you, which will in turn make you a better leader.
What’s the most beneficial part of being within the Grand Central Tech ecosystem?
The mentor office hours at Grand Central Tech are incomparable to anything else out there. We’ve really benefited from the time spent with the experts who come in to meet with us, and we can imagine that the other entrepreneurs in the program would say the same thing!
What’s next for you and your company?
We’re currently working on expanding our product line, which is incredibly exciting. Unfortunately, that’s all we can say at present, but stay tuned!
